Drivers who retired during the final leg - the 'Étape Finale' - were still officially classified. 113 drivers were officially classified.
Mild weather caused an almost total absence of snow from the stages. Occasional rain and fog.
On SS 3 spectators threw snow onto the road. Schwarz went off the road as a result. While trying to avoid his car McRae hit a tree. Both drivers lost a lot of time and all hopes of a good result.
First win for Ford in the Rallye Monte-Carlo since 1953 - Maus Gatsonides and Peter Worledge with a Ford Zephyr.
